Rangers administration: Fans’ fighting fund thrives
RANGERS’ administration plight has brought donations to the club’s fighting fund from the most unlikely of sources, writes Andrew Smith.
“We’ve got a guy who gave us £102 and said the £100 was his and the £2 from his friend who was a Celtic fan. That was great, we’ll take anybody’s money,” says supporters liaison officer Jim Hannah, who set up the fund.
It is expected that, through fund-raising initiatives from near and far, the sum raised could have topped £250,000 by the time Hannah meets the club’s administrators to give over the first tranche of money to help meet running costs. “We’ve been speaking to the administrators who have assured us none of the money we give them will go towards paying any legal fees, their fees or creditors,” Hannah says.
“The plan is to meet them on a weekly basis and for them to tell us how much they’re going to need to keep the club running for the following week. That will obviously change depending on whether we have a home game, or not, when obviously there will be no income. It’s so important the fans know any money they put in won’t go into a black hole.”
