Charlie Mulgrew eyes British battle with Man Utd

Having done much to break down St Mirren with his unerring delivery from corners, Celtic’s Charlie Mulgrew turned his sights to Thursday’s Champions League draw and announced that he would like to face Manchester United in the last 16.

He said: “I would like Man United but whoever it is we will need to be prepared. Personally, I would like United because it would be a Battle of Britain type thing. I have seen them but never been involved in them so that would be my choice.

“You have got to believe in yourself but, whoever we get, it’s going to be difficult, make no mistake about that. We did get a result against Barcelona here but it’s different type of football. I’m not going to come out here and say I fancy my chances against Man Utd but I’m sure we will compete and do everything we can to get some kind of result.”

That’s excitement for another day. Frankly, there wasn’t much of it on offer yesterday, although there was a minor controversy when Neil Lennon said he felt his team should have had two penalties. Both were debatable, quite honestly, but Lennon said: “There were two blatant ones, the one on [Gary] Hooper and the one on [Beram] Kayal. Particularly the one on Beram. The linesman is on that side, he’s got a clear look at it and his first touch has taken him across young [Marc] McAusland, who has taken him out. It’s as clear a penalty as you’ll see. There was some suggestions this week we get the big decisions after the Arbroath game but obviously that’s not the case at all so we can put that one to bed straight away.”
