A MAN’S face was slashed in a “horrifying” attack outside a bookmakers on a busy Glasgow street.

The 25-year-old had left the William Hill bookmakers on Kennishead Road in the Thornliebank area of the city when he was struck on the face with a sharp implement by a man who then ran off.

Police said the assault, which took place at around 5pm on Friday, is not being treated as a random attack.

The victim went to a bowling club nearby to raise the alarm, and the police and emergency services were contacted.

The man was taken to the Glasgow Victoria Infirmary for treatment to a severe facial injury. He was later transferred to the Southern General Hospital in the city, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

There is no description of the suspect at this time. Detectives are continuing their inquiries, and are appealing for information.

Detective Constable John Dowds, of Pollok CID, said: “This was a horrifying attack in the middle of the day in a very busy area of Glasgow. Our inquiries are ongoing. However, I would like to stress that we are not treating this as a random attack.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was on Kennishead Road around the time of the incident [to contact the police]. At the time of the attack, the area would have been very busy given that it was a Friday evening.

“I am hopeful that some people may have seen a man acting suspiciously around the bookmakers prior to incident taking place or immediately afterwards.”

Police said the victim had driven to the bookies in a white Vauxhall Astra, which he parked in a nearby lane before entering the premises at around 4.50pm. He was attacked when he left a short time later.
