Body found in Skye search

A BODY has been found by rescue teams searching for a missing hillwalker on the Isle of Skye.

The 60-year-old man had not been seen since around 2.30pm on Thursday, when a member of the public said they had seen him fall at Glenbrittle in the Cuillin Hills.

The mountain range is home to many challenging peaks for climbers and weather conditions at the time were described as severe.

Police, an RAF Sea King helicopter from Lossiemouth and two mountain rescue teams were involved in the search, which was suspended on Friday afternoon because of bad weather hampering the rescue effort.

Conditions yesterday were described as “difficult”, with low cloud and freezing temperatures.

Northern Constabulary said that a body was found at around 11am yesterday morning.

The force said that no further details would be released until the dead man’s next of kin had been informed.
