In pictures: Facebook project sheds new light on Edinburgh of the past

It started as one man's quest for old photographs of the capital, but now David McLean's undertaking has grown into a thriving community of people revelling in the images and stories of the city's past

Scotland in Pictures: The Munros

It is Sir Hugh Munro who we have to thank for inadvertently establishing the arduous weekend pastime of 'munro bagging'. In 1891 he published his 'Munro Tables', which identified all Scottish summits over 3,000 feet, and at the last count there were 283 of them. When the weather's fair, the views are spectacular, so we weren't surprised to receive so many great shots this week.
