WATSONIANS have bolstered their squad with a further two signings for the forthcoming Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership rugby season – but coach Bruce Aitchison remains coy about the impending arrival of a second row from New Zealand.

Blooded in 'Sonian colours at the weekend when training games were staged on tour against Darlington Mowden Park and Otley were winger Max Learmonth from Berwick and loose head prop Andy Fisher from Dundee.

Aitchison, who played down the likely signing of a Kiwi, saying: "I don't want to say anything until he is on the plane," admitted to satisfaction at the quality of recruitment taking place at a club where Murrayfield Academy hooker Fraser Brown (ex-Biggar) recently at hooker with scrum half Jamie Blackwood back from Rotherham.

Otley will play in English National League Division One and Aitchison added: "Otley's president told us they had to get up to our level rather than the other way round."

Watsonians tonight stage a training game with Edinburgh at Myreside before entertaining Melrose under similar conditions on Saturday.
