THE Sarah Beaney "Bubbles Cup" Memorial Sevens takes place at Cavalry Park tomorrow as Murrayfield Wanderers remember a former team-mate.
The women's rugby event is named after ex-Wandie Sarah Beaney, who died in a road accident in 2005. Over the last four years a tournament has been played in her honour. In 2005 it was a tag match, in 2006 it was a touch event and last year Wandies beat an Edinburgh Select in a 15-a-side match. Tomorrow from 11am onwards six sevens teams will compete in two pools before the champion is crowned. It is being held at Portobello's ground as the back pitches at Murrayfield are out of action.
In Pool A the Young Wandies – made up of the club's under-21 players, many of whom won the under-18 cup last term – will compete with Rugby Ecosse and "The Randoms", who have been put together by Scotland cap Sonia Cull.
Wandies Exiles, Edinburgh University and Kirkcaldy make up Pool B and the top two teams from each pool will progress through to the semi-finals with the remainder of the sides battling it out for the plate.
Organiser Claire Cruikshank said: "It should be a fun day with some good rugby played."
