INVERLEITH'S players will be hoping their pre-season team building trip pays off when they kick off their Scottish Hydro Electric East League Division Two rugby season tomorrow.
The Arboretum side finished third last term as Meggetland and Dalkeith ran away with promotion and they will be looking to challenge for honours this time.

They start with a home match against Gala YM and numbers at training over the summer have b
een good under Paul Cyphus and new backs coach George Threadgall. Club morale was also boosted by the trip to Craggan near Loch Tay, a custom which has been going for 28 years ago since Ferranti – who merged with Holy Cross in 1996 – started it.

Club president Duncan MacDonell said: "It was a good trip and the guys all enjoyed it. We have had a good turnout at training recently, but as usual there are always withdrawals."

As if to emphasise MacDonell's point, at least three of Inverleith's main players will be missing tomorrow as they are attending a concert with others out due to holidays and work.

It is an age old problem in the regional leagues and the clubs who can get out a consistent XV most weeks who will do the best.

Elsewhere on the opening day, Moray House host St Boswells, relegated Leith welcome Liberton to Academy Park and Edinburgh Northern take on Edinburgh BATS.
