THE storylines from the opening weekend were repeated as newly promoted Selkirk came from behind again to secure another dramatic win, while youthful Glasgow Hawks again lacked the poise required to win games at this level.
Hawks scored converted tries by Peter Jericevich and Sean Murray in four minutes towards the end of the first quarter and, although Selkirk got eight points back through a Michael McVie penalty and unconverted try from prop Martin Murray, a Mi
ke Rainey penalty on the interval whistle gave Hawks a 17-8 lead.
Selkirk's Scotland U18 centre Alex Dunbar, making his Premiership debut following a summer move from Annan, looks to be a superb acquisition and made several electric breaks and crunching tackles in a man-of-the-match display. As the balance shifted after the break Selkirk nosed ahead with converted tries from Murray again and a brilliant score rounded off by lock Eddie Gauché. Another Sean Murray try a edged Hawks back in front before visiting scrum-half McVie kicked the winning penalty. Selkirk coach Kevin Barrie said: "We've created a bit of character. When we do go behind we keep fighting."
