INTERNATIONAL centre Ben Cairns will return from injury for his first competitive start of the season when Edinburgh Rugby bid to keep their Heineken European Cup challenge alive at Castres Olympique on Saturday.
After missing Saturday's opening pool defeat at home to Leinster the 23-year-old has recovered from a knee ligament problem sustained in a friendly with London Wasps in August.

Cairns takes over from Hugo Southwell who is missing from the squad altogether as is Matt Mustchin whose place at second row goes to Craig Hamilton as coach Andy Robinson makes two changes. Recalled to the substitutes after a lengthy lay-off stemming from a shoulder knock is flanker and club captain, Simon Cross.

It will be a landmark day for two Edinburgh players in particular.

Chris Paterson will become the first Scot to make 50 Heineken Cup appearances and

Phil Godman will be having his 100th outing for Edinburgh.

Edinburgh: Paterson; Robertson, Cairns, De Luca, Webster; Godman, Blair ( captain); Jacobsen, Ford, G Cross, C Hamilton, J Hamilton, Newlands, Hogg, MacDonald. Subs: Kelly, Kerr, Gissing, S Cross, Laidlaw, D Blair, Houston.

Hmm. A pretty lightweight back subs bench? And none of the back-row dropped despite being posted missing several times on Saturday past. And the same for Chunk who missed a couple of key tackles in and around the fringes. But then, I suppose there is little depth with all the current injuries still hanging around.

A bit harsh on Mustchin though. I realise he was not at his best on Saturday, but I think he's been a stalwart this season so far - as he was at the end of last season. I think I would have put him in the back-row for this game again. Perhaps he's just knackered though.

Never mind. Allez les noirs and all that.

I'd heard Mustchin is injured.

Thank god - should be a lot more creativity with the 12 and 13 combo back playing together , should be the Scotland one too!

Jacobsen should have be given the elbow after last weeks performance......let one of the youg guns that are not being allowed to play for their allocated P1 team have a go.

Personally I think Webster was very very poor. He dropped of a number of tackles at key times. I would have perhaps used Houston, Southwell deserves to get dropped.

GAR, I agree Webster was poor. Could put it down to rustiness? I thought it was odd that when Houston came on on Saturday, it was for Robertson who IMHO had had a relatively decent game up to that point.

Southwell was indeed rubbish. Very glad to see Cairns fit again.
