A Russian businessman’s fight against extradition from Scotland has been delayed.
Alexander Shopovalov, 56, has taken refuge in the west Highlands.
He believes that Vladimir Putin wants him dead and has requested political asylum.
But he came under suspicion after purchasing Ballachulish House in Lochaber and completing other transactions.
He has become involved in another legal battle, with the Crown Office pursuing a Proceeds of Crime civil action at Inverness Sheriff Court.
During a brief discussion of the case, the Sheriff was told by an agent for the Crown Office that the translation of Russian documents had failed to clarify the situation.
The Sheriff postponed further deliberation until 15 March next year.
Asked about the action, a Crown Office spokesman said: “This civil matter is at an early stage.” He added: “It would not be appropriate for us to provide any further comment at this time.”
