A MAN has been banned from owning animals after his cat had to be put down.
Frith Mitchell, of New Street, Musselburgh, failed to provide his pet, Tiga, with a suitable diet and deprived him of a vet, a Scottish SPCA investigation found.
Mitchell, 44, pleaded guilty to causing Tiga unnecessary suffering and was given a community payback order of 85 hours’ unpaid work at Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier this week. He was also banned from owning animals for ten years.
Scottish SPCA inspector Stephanie McCrossan said: “Tiga was in a very poor skeletal condition, he was dragging his leg, which was protruding at an awkward angle, across the floor as he walked and it was clear he was in urgent need of veterinary treatment.
“Unfortunately the vet made decided to put him to sleep.”
