A man who died following a head-on crash in Dumfries and Galloway has been named by police.

Ian Austin, 83, from George Street, Dumfries, died in hospital on Wednesday following the accident on the A75 near Annan on Sunday.

Mr Austin was driving a Honda Jazz which was involved in a collision with an Audi A1 driven by a 69-year-old woman from Berkshire.

The crash happened at 11am at the junction with the B6357 at the east approach for Annan.

The drivers and passengers in both cars were removed from the vehicles by firefighters and taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, where Mr Austin later died.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing and the procurator fiscal has been informed.”
