JOHNSTON HISTORY MUSEUM, Renfrewshire, 10:30am-4pm, Sunday, 14 September: Pick up groceries AND learn something too? Morrison's supermarket hosts the museum, set up through an HLF grant this year. It contains archive material from two of the town's best-known firms, Wm. Paton and Clifton & Baird, as well as other material relating to the town's heritage. Guided walks start here at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm.

DUNDEE BACKPACKERS, 71 High St, Dundee, 10am-4pm Saturday/ Sunday 20/ 21 September: Tucked behind the High Street frontage is a complex of five unique buildings, dating from c1560, that have been meticulously restored.

Last year was the 200th anniversary of abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire. HLF funding was granted to explore links between slavery and properties now owned by the National Trust for Scotland – Greenbank included.

BIG TREE COUNTRY, Perth and Kinross, various events, Saturday/Sunday 20/21 September: www.perthshirebigtreecountry.co.uk This HLF-supported project promotes Perthshire's historic trees, grand estates and remarkable woodlands. Scone Palace, Blair Castle and Cluny House open their grounds for free. There are also guided walks around Kinnoull Woodland Park, the Scone pinetum and Dunkeld House Hotel.
