Rangers move is still my first choice, says Shittu

WATFORD defender Danny Shittu insists he is still keen to move to Rangers despite accusing the Ibrox club of causing the collapse of the deal.
Rangers had a £1.5million bid accepted for the 27-year-old Nigeria internationalist but it was reported that his personal demands had proved too much for Light Blues boss Walter Smith.

Shittu, however, claimed Rangers had altered the personal terms first offered but claims he is still willing to talk to the Govan club.

He said: "I was prepared to join Rangers. They put a proposal on the table which I accepted but when it came to putting the contract in writing the deal had changed. This is where the breakdown in talks has come as far as I'm concerned.

"I know there is other interest out there but my first choice remains Rangers and I still believe a deal can be done.

"I certainly haven't closed the door on the move but it's up to Rangers."

#2 I have watched him many, many times in the flesh playing for Blackpool where Clarke Carlisle was his partner at the back.

Carlisle was a FAR superior player in every department.

I stand by what I say.

#5 No, they are Champions Chazybud.

Apparently, noone is interested in Shitu so he will have to readdress his plans and Walter Mitty will have to make up another smoke and mirrors cover screen.

I feel just Champion tis windae, another six weeks to go. Which is nice.

What chance Wattie actually signing him now that he has let the cat oot the bag about the....Del Trotter style negotiations?

Not exactly ideal to bring a guy to the club who has suggested they tried to shaaaft him!

Chucky how do you figure the Greek was one third the cost of KM. Or is that the Seville calculator in use again.

From everything that has been posted KM cost 1.9mil and you're new bhoy 2mil.

Or is the press at it again.

#12 DM Forgot say that according to the Mirror it's a £1 Million fee with another £1 Mill after 100 appearances.........Even if he plays most weeks he'll struggle to do that in his 3 year contract.

Peter Lawwell strikes again.

So you believe the Mirror?

I would tend to think that the lad has gone for the 2mil up front. An international player who moved to Man City for 6mil, even unloading him, 2mil is a good buy.

Bit gutted if he signs.
Smith reckons he's a good player.
Some maniac that manages Nigeria thinks he's a good player.
Boothroyd seems to think he's decent.
Only problem is Chucky says he's garbage.
Must be true.

I suspect that the real problem here is that Rangers did most of their informal negotiating, both with Watford and with Shittu, prior to the bombshell that Ferguson faced three months out.

In that one moment, the club's signing priority has probably shifted from defence to midfield, although, having found Watford willing to sell, they still decided to push their luck with a lower personal deal for the player, which he rejected.

Interesting to see that Shittu has blinked first, and is making noises about how a deal "can still be done", but my suspicion is that WS is now far more concerned with bolstering the midfield.

WS said the deal was dead, so he should stick by his statement.

If the player was smart, he should have avoided going public with some negative comments.

I don't think we should sign him now.
