Published Date: 29 June 2009
RANGERS striker Kris Boyd has pleaded with manager Walter Smith to give him a chance in the Champions League next season, claiming he is now mature enough to play at the highest level.
The striker has won every domestic trophy with Rangers, as well as netting more than 100 goals for the Ibrox club. However, he has never started a game in Europe's premier club competition, with Smith overlooking the player in the Champions League.

"I'm the first to admit I had a lot of daftness about me early on in my career," he explained.

"I was young and naive. I tended to follow other people and was influenced by them. But you have to grow up and realise what is right and wrong."

He added: "I've done just about everything I wanted to do in my Rangers career. I have won the title, cups, scored 100 goals and played for Scotland.

"But I haven't started a game in the Champions League and next season I want to be part of it. I want to stamp my authority on that tournament.

"I feel I'm ready and believe I can play at that level. If I'm lining up at Ibrox with that Champions League music on it will confirm I've matured in to the player I need to be.

"It will show I have grown in to the kind of man who can be successful at a club like Rangers. I want to build on that and show I deserve to be there."

It's an entirely reasonable aim for Boyd to be involved in the Champions League games and hopefully make some impact in them. As he says, he's done a lot at domestic level etc. In the past he has been left out of various European games, especially if Rangers played 4-5-1 which didn't suit him. But he has improved his all-round game - and must look to continue that improvement.

Boyd did show improvement toward the end of last season, coincidentally after Ferguson had been exited from the team. perhaps with the trouble maker gone from Ibrox we will see a much improved Boyd in the seasons to come.

Is he mature enough to ask George Burley and the Tartan Army to forgive him and get back in the squad for the Norway game? I doubt it.

#5. Boyd sure could go back to Burley and try to get back into his thinking for a return. However, why in hells name would he have to/want to do the same to the tartan trannies? They'd probably only turn their backs on him and show him their árses anyway.

Boydthebench must be sooking in with Fat-Al after this rant.

Maybe he`s expecting "Walters" days are numbered.

One things for sure you dont openly criticise your manager then hope to be playing more regularly than usual.

Boydthebench understands better than anyone that he`s not wanted at The Scrapyard.
He should accept that and voluntarilly leave like his good mate Huttonthug.

#27 Not really.

ALL Rearrangerz playerz are up for sale.
Same as in December/January.

Its not that they are not for FireSale its just that no ones interested.
Even at knockdown,FireSale-like prices.

Willie McKay told the Scottish press during January as to the lengths that Rearrangerz were willing to go to in order to appease their new bankers,Lloyds Banking Group.
After an exchange tween Bain and Willie,Bain refused to take further against against Willie.
Willie had nmade it clear that he was willing to make public ALL the Rearrangerz players he and, crucially, other agents had been informed could be touted and made available for sale.

What Willie was making abundantly clear was that he was NOT the only agen who had been contacted to try and get rid of at least some of Rearrangerz "stars" during the window.
Not even Willie could shift any of them.
Thats a sign of the enormity of that task.
Isn`t it.

Curiously the player thats been getting hammered and advertised for sale is Basket-Ball.
Mind you its only Big Eck The Neck who has stuck that length neck above the parapet and admitted to that.
But I have been told that Beeeemeeeengh`mmmmmmmm would only ever be interested if they got BoozzyBazza for nowt.
No fee.

The biggest impact Super-John-Fleck made last season was when he made the front page of The Sun when he and his mates were removed from a Glasgow night club for being underage.

On the park Wee Fleckie was a disaster.

Thing is and its gone almost unreported is that Big Eck The Neck has al"ready" signed 3 central midfielders.
Scott Dain and Giovanny Espinoza were the first two follow followed by Roger Johnson from Cardiff at £5 million alone.
Baldes also on trial.

As I say,Basket-Ball perhaps.
But only on a no-fee basis.

Well will be interesting to see if Boyd does start any CL games. If we get a duff team like that Danish mob Celtic had last season then a home start is his only hope!

As for some of the postings re Fleck, well you could supplant his name with Aiden's as he was about as anonymous.

Regarding the firesale, I am sure some players will go to balance the books and if we get £7m for Davies then I could see us taking it.

However I am not hitting the panic button yet as Celtic's zero signing policy is paying dividends....out muscled by Hull, what a sorry star of affairs for Scotland's second club.

Two in a row coming your way!

All this talk about the financial woes at Rangers and despite this Rangers STILL managed to win the double. BWahahahaaha! Meanwhile, TM has been pulling in lots of talented players at the piggery to try and dethrone the Champs next season!! Or maybe not. Are shelliks finances no better than ours one wonders???
What shellik game next season is to be postponed as a mark of 'repect' for the death of 4 in a row???? I'm sure the ambulance chasers will manage to arrange something.

Looks like the runners-up are still hurting.
The kiddies and the foamers among them anyway.

You think they'd be more bothered about their own away form in the CL than displaying their obsession with the Rangers.

I prefer to think that you really are still hurting and that Tony Monobrow's no signing policy is making that hurt ever more. Now if someone deserves to be angry, then it's you!

Not sure Walter's going to have many options but to play Boyd up front. Might not work out too badly though; if we get rid of Ferguson (please, please) we'll end up with a far more dynamic midfield with players who'll get forward and support Boyd in the way he needs. Having Ferguson trying to control things by passing sideways 30 yards from his own byeline was never going to be much help to Boyd.

The run Rangers put on once Ferguson was banned must have been their best run in years - that should tell Smith something.

-55 Yeah can see it happening aswell.

Preference would be to go to a 4-3-3 formation with Thommo, Davies and Pedro in the middle. Kyle, Boyd and Miller upfront.

Also hope we punt Beasley as he is too fragile for the SPL.

-56 Interesting to see how many of those trophies were won from the year I was born in (1975). 18 league titles is quite a fair return especially considering the 9 barren years between 78-87..!

#68 Rouleur.......Have to agree with your prediction of another end of season dog fight. Its a pity that the SPL has to end like that year in year out.I dread to think what the league would be like without the OF being part of it.

Rouleur,

#69...interesting question, what would the SPL be like if Celtic and Rangers were elsewhere. For a start instead of the big two I reckon it would transform into the big four (Dons/DUFC/Hearts/Hibs).These four clubs would win the league and like the big four in England I don't think aby other SPL club would be capable of breaking the monopoly.

I would be interested to know how much Sky/ESPN would be prepared to pay for the TV rights minus CFC/RFC and how much of a hit financially the remaining clubs would take. Also financially the reduced ticket revenue from two guaranteed home sell outs each season. On this last point would it be offset by more of the 'big' four's fans turning up on a regular basis thus plugging the gap as their team becomes more compettitive and succesful? I mean look at when the 'big' four go to Hampden, they have the ability to command a sizeable support.

However, the way things stand I would be very surprised to see the status quo change
