COUNCILLORS are to start the recruitment process for a new head of planning for Edinburgh.
Alan Henderson, the council's head of planning and strategy, has announced his retirement and will leave his post at the end of November.

His position is one of the most important jobs in the city, as his recommendations to councillors shape the future of the Capital.

When considering all new developments, from conservatories to the £300 million Caltongate scheme, politicians always listen to his advice – and usually agree with his recommendations.

A recruitment pack is being created and the council hopes to advertise the position in June and hold interviews over the summer.
