FINANCE Secretary John Swinney was due to meet with a group of Edinburgh's civic and business leaders for dinner tonight.
Council leaders, NHS chiefs, trams boss Willie Gallagher, chief constable David Strang and representatives from Forth Ports and Edinburgh University are among those known to be on the guest list.

The Evening News understands that extra Government money for the city and plans for tram line three to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary will be on the agenda.

Mr Swinney will also sign the controversial "single outcome agreement" the Scottish Government has asked each local authority to complete, based on an agreed set of national principles.

Critics believe this takes away councillors' rights to make decisions.

But city leader Jenny Dawe said: "A huge amount of work has gone into producing this document, which matches the priorities for the city with the priorities identified for the country.

"Edinburgh has long been recognised as the main engine of economic growth and wealth creation in Scotland so I am also delighted that we have the opportunity to discuss directly the priorities we all have."

The so-called "controversial" single outcome agreement is only controversial to the Westmonster New Labour branch in Scotland who knee-jerk oppose it, despite the fact that COSLA and Labour Councils in Scotland welcomed it with open arms because it sweeps away the previous stifling and rigid socialistic control over how taxpayers money should be spent by local councils for the benefit of all of the community.
