CITY housing leader Paul Edie has urged the Scottish Government to ensure that Edinburgh receives its fair share of money to build affordable homes.
First Minister Alex Salmond recently revealed that up to £100 million of spending through the affordable housing investment programme is being brought forward.
The money will be spent this year and next, rather than 2010-11 as originally planned.
Cllr Edie said: "If this money is to be used effectively, it needs to be spent in the areas of the country that have the most acute shortage of affordable homes.
"This money could allow us to build some of the 12,000 new, affordable homes which are badly needed in the city."
