Zoo lions inbred
GLASGOW Zoo was criticised yesterday after it emerged that the parents of three new lion cubs are brother and sister.
Animal welfare campaigners described the inbreeding as "highly irresponsible, unethical and totally unacceptable".
They also claimed it was the second time the lions have produced a litter, saying that the first cubs all died.
Ross Minnett, the director of Advocates for Animals, accused the Zoo management of cashing in on the cubs by using them to entice visitors.
Zoo director Roger Edwards denied using the cubs for publicity and claimed contraceptives failed.
