Zoo denies any danger to panda deal

BOSSES at Edinburgh Zoo have insisted a deal to bring two pandas to the city is not in danger of collapsing - despite the suspension of two senior executives and the sacking of another.

Donald Emslie, chairman of the Royal Zoological Society, has pledged a crucial project to build a new panda enclosure is on track and that there is no question of an agreement between the Chinese and UK governments falling apart.

Meanwhile, the society has denied claims by its sacked director of development, Anthony McReavy, that he was dismissed for raising concerns about how the zoo was being run, but officials refuse to explain the "very serious" allegations which have been under investigation.

Mr Emslie said: "A delegation from China, possibly in May, will finalise details for the pandas' transportation and acclimatisation."
