A cow on the motorway, uncharitable words for minister Ruth Kelly and many concerns about CAB branch closures
THE tale of the cow who strayed on to the M9 and caused a pile-up provoked a mixture of accusations and puns.
"It collided with another car – setting off a chain reaction which ended in a five-car smash." In other words, the following drivers were either too close, not paying attention or both. Prosecute the lot of them.

"A Nissan Micra, two Vauxhall Corsas, a Fiat Punto and a Toyota Yaris" Hmm. I don't want to stereotype, but I can imagine mobile phones and make-up mirrors being involved in this.

I blame poor lane discipline. A cow travelling south should be in the udder lane. The insurance report should be good as five cars put in: "Had to avoid some stupid cow standing in the middle of the road".

I laughed a lot at all the threads until I realised that the cow had died.
Brodric
Alas, Brodric, an early death is the destiny of most of our bovine friends. But let's turn to something less parochial. You weren't exactly brimming over with good wishes for Ruth Kelly on her ministerial resignation.
Getting out before she's pushed.
Boy Wonder
Good riddance to another total plonker. Pity that the rest of them don't quit as well.
Peter - very disappointed/concerned
Hooray!! About time too!

At last some good news from the Labour Party. Arrogant woman should have gone a long time ago.
Steve Evans, Malta
Tuesday: "I'm all in favour of apprenticeships," Brown told delegates, "But this is no time for a novice." Wednesday: Ruth Kelly quits. Coincidence?

Will anyone notice?

Ah well, she's a politician, she's used to brickbats. Moving on, there was consternation at the news the Capital is losing some of its Citizens Advice offices.
I am really sorry to read that some CABs are to close. Their service is second to none, and I am afraid that a telephone helpline is absolutely no substitute for the face to face contact which a local office can provide. For many people in trouble or just needing advice, it is that ability to be able to pop in and access some really professional advice which is their unique contribution. They are invaluable

Closing these bureaux at a time when the economy is on a downturn seems to be incredibly bad decision making – surely the service should be expanding? Many people could be left to suffer as a result of this.

Well done the Evening News for publishing a story about one of the most disgraceful situations I have read of in many a year! Citizens Advice, for far too many folk, provides an absolute lifeline when things spiral out of control. I'm sure CEO Martin Ashing was well intentioned when he said they had no alternative ... but the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
dba, Haymarket
Let's hope there are no cows on that road dba. But you are right, CAB is a worthy institution.
