Lumping babies in with dogs and drunks sparked a new row about prams on buses, and gripes about the Fringe box office

Bus drivers can refuse to carry drunks or dogs, and presumably a drunk with a dog (which is not an uncommon combination) is right out. But is it right that these should be put in the same category as infants in prams, as the head of Lothian Buses appeared to do? You had plenty to say on the issue of prams on buses.

Buses are designed to transport people. They are not designed to take large objects such as prams or oversize luggage. Try getting on with a drum kit at peak hours, for example, and you will be punted fast enough.

So now we're comparing babies to "drum kits"?

Pacob75

Someone in Pilmar Smith's position should know better than to issue a letter containing such insulting comparisons.

D Napier

What did these people do just a few years ago when buses had steps and no wheelchair/pram spaces? They folded their buggies up and put them in the luggage hole space and found a normal seat. Yes, newer buses have spaces put aside for wheelchairs, but that's because they have to meet Disability Discrimination Act requirements

Louise McDonald

By God! Is Edinburgh that bad!? A city full of so much hatred towards innocent, vulnerable babies that have to have a pram for travel, security and warmth. And some in this article, classing them as dogs!

Charles Linskaill

But there is a simple answer to the dilemma ...

Why don't we just go back to Routemasters and have done with it. The argument about prams and wheelchairs would go away then because you simply can't get those things on a Routemaster. Pram users and wheelchair users should consider themselves fortunate that the increasing political correctness and nanny state-ism of this world have resulted in provision being made for them and stop bickering like children over who should take priority. First come, first served. Anyone who can't see the logic in that needs to start using their brains.

It's been a lot easier to get a ticket for the bus than for a Fringe show. The box office system crashed again and you were scathing in your criticism.

Welcome to Edinburgh, hick capital of Europe. Nothing works properly here

SPG

Well the system was obviously not up to the job – at least there is a year to get it replaced with a system that actually works. I had a friend here from the States and it was embarrassing trying to get tickets.

For goodness sake, as a programmer, I could write the software myself. How come it is so expensive? Unbelievable.

The piece on the wet summer attracted a few more winners and losers to add to the list ...

Apparently the summer has been amazing for the slug population.

And how on earth can the tram work continue?

What about the smokers? Banned indoors and soaked ootdoors. Surely they need a re-think in inclement conditions?
