New cooncil hooses are going up...but bus routes are being scrapped. Plenty to bawl about then - it's the trams y'know

News that new council houses are to be built in Edinburgh for the first time in 20 years attracted support from the onliners.

This is how a government should be run. Labour numpties take note.

Build them at Ratho beside the proposed new houses by Murray, so that you have a good social mix of people. Would ensure that facilities such as schools, and transport are well considered and utilised. Choosing to build at Pennywell is just adding evil to evil.

Cuts to bus services were to be expected, right? Oh, keep up...it's the trams' fault, of course...

Let us be clear about this. These service cuts cannot be blamed on Lothian Buses. They are because of the tram scheme and, if TIE's risk and revenue appendix is anything to go by, they are very likely to be the tip of the iceberg.

Isn't it the case that LRT bus drivers get a pay and pensions package which is better than that offered by the private sector? And a 5.1% pay rise for next year. Not bad.

Just think, for the 700 million our new tram line is costing, Edinburgh and Midlothian could have had the world's best bus network. What are we getting instead? Cuts to routes (this is presumably just the start) and a stupid expensive white elephant of a tram line that is going to be of use to only a fraction of the population.

A newsagent that is being investigated for fly-tipping attracted some dirt.

50 is a complete joke. He should have been fined 5000 and that would deter anyone trying it. It will cost a lot more than 50 of tax payers money to clean up this mess so why be so lenient!!!!!

Anyone convicted of littering or fly-tipping should be fined and have to do a few hundred hours of community service, cleaning up other people's mess.

If he employed a contractor then surely he has the invoice to prove it? Then the contractor can be sued. Simple.

Contractor meaning a mate who dumped it for him. The council(s) should dump it all in his shop and watch his business contract.

Down with everything

The fine is far too small. It should be high enough to be a real deterrent to anyone selfish enough to do this. At least 5000 pounds, or more.

What contractor? Not named – and I'll bet that's because he doesn't exist! They get much maligned but thank god we do have council enforcers and wardens otherwise these sort of people would just do what the hell they liked.
