Plaudits for the plan for a Waterfront Meadows, but brickbats for Midlothian Council and its town hall dog ban
The plan to create a Meadows-like park on reclaimed land at Western Harbour seemed to win a broad approval. Mario is unequivocal ...
This is great. There is nothing to complain about here. Please do not complain.
The Genuine Mario Antoinette
Perfect place for a funfair, don't you think!
Hector the Red
I'm not sure that's the idea, Hector.
This is the kind of thing you see in other forward-looking European cities like Valencia and Antwerp. It's massively welcome.
antifa
An international perspective, but the devil is in the detail in these grandiose schemes.
Blimey, that couple are getting a bit carried away aren't they! Is this legal in public? I think someone should have a word with them...
Jenny MacArthur
I wonder if the snogging couple are a tribute to the racy exploits of "couple seen banging in the park" story from a while back.
RickL
If you look carefully at the couple in the picture it would appear that the man is in the process of strangling the woman ... and what's that thing flying past in the sky? A pterodactyl?
Plodjfriss, Hammer of the Numpties
If you stand on one of the park benches will you be able to see the iconic Granton gas holder?
Ed_Izmir,Turkey
Yes, and on clear day the Scotsman Steps. You were more cynical about the plan to make these a place that decent folk might once again want to use.
It still won't stop the neds from peeing in them, though. The more money you spend, the more likely they are to get trashed. How about installing a lift there instead?
Way Out West
Absolutely, neds are much more respectful of lifts.
Sarcasm
Block it off would seem the best idea.

While on the subject of the insanitary ... you were scathing about the decision to ban a dog obedience class from Loanhead Town Hall on health grounds.
These are not health and safety "fears" they are just stupid ideas dreamed up by moronic jobsworths who have nothing better to do. Why is it that whenever anyone wants to organise something that brings people together, is enjoyable and has an overall benefit, some daft idiot decides that they can't do it because of "health and safety"?
Alternative (High-Octane) Fuel Head
Yet another example of our country going absolutely PC crazy. These classes and countless others provide a service to the people who are voting these idiots in. By completing the Kennel Club tests the owners and dogs will have a better understanding of how to behave in public thus providing us with a healthier and safer society.
Tortolano
So let me get this straight – according to Midlothian council, dogs are unhygienic. But allowing blood to splat everywhere, food to be dropped and squashed into the floor and sweat pools through exercise are ok? Mmmm, methinks the council are barking mad!
Peedie Paws
But someone seemed to be sympathetic to Midlothian Council's decision
Quite right. Dogs are very unhygienic. They lick their own and other dog's bits and then slobber all over your face in shows of affection.

Er, yes M33. Not to put too fine a point on it.
