Youngsters in tobacco fight
YOUNG people in the Lothians are now attempting to stop their friends smoking, a city charity has said.
ASH Scotland, which campaigns against tobacco, said there were a variety of projects led by young people to encourage contemporaries not to take up the habit.
Speaking after the organisation's AGM, chief executive Sheila Duffy said: "I am delighted to see this new development.
In Scotland 49,000 smokers quit or die every year. They are replaced by 15,000 young people who take up the habit every year.
"So it is great to see young people taking an interest."
