Younger people 'amenable' to leaving cash to charity
CHARITIES are being urged to target younger legacy-givers following a report that revealed young, single and childless people who had still to write their wills were among those most amenable to leaving money to charitable causes.
The research found that less than one in five (18 per cent) of those who had already made a will had left a legacy to charity.
Rebecca Molyneux, a researcher at NfpSynergy, which carried out the study, said: "These findings show that charities seeking new legacies must strike a balance between targeting older generations, who are naturally more likely to already have a will, and nurturing relationships with younger generations especially, who - although far less likely to have already made a will - are among those with highest consideration rates for giving legacies.
"Fundraisers might even do well to directly target these younger people."
