Writer makes mark on city

IAN Rankin, the crime writer, is to become the first figure to be commemorated in a Hollywood-style "walk of fame" in Edinburgh.

The Rebus author is to unveil a Caithness stone slab engraved with his handprints outside the City Chambers on the Royal Mile on Monday.

The best-selling author became the first to win a new Edinburgh Award, a civic honour instigated by then-Lord Provost Lesley Hinds, last year.

Rankin said: "It is a thrill."
