Wraps come off statue of Adam Smith
A STATUE of economist and Enlightenment icon Adam Smith will be unveiled on the Royal Mile tomorrow during a two-day celebration of his life and work.
Events include a debate tonight in the Caves on Niddry Street, a visit to Smith's tomb tomorrow and an exhibition of his books and letters at the National Library.
The statue will be unveiled by Nobel Prize winning economist Professor Vernon Lomax Smith at 12.15pm.
Former Scottish Secretary Lord Michael Forsyth and former Foreign Office minister Brian Wilson plan to attend the ceremony.
The statue has been kept under cover with fencing surrounding it, and police will be attending its unveiling to ensure the event passes without incident.
