Shopper slashed across face

A MAN was slashed across the face in a knife attack moments after leaving a Tesco supermarket.

The 48-year-old victim had been at the store in Nicolson Street and was walking home along nearby Haddon's Court when he was attacked.

The suspect ran away into Howden Street, and then Gilmour Street following the attack at 11am on Monday.

He is described as white, mid-20s, with a shaved head, and wearing a distinctive hooded bright green jacket with horizontal white stripes, jeans and white trainers.

A police spokesman said: "This was a violent and unprovoked attack that left the victim with serious facial injuries that required hospital treatment.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault, who either witnessed the incident, or saw the suspect in the area, to contact police immediately.

"Anyone who recognises the description of the suspect should get in touch."
