Travellers urged to plan well on busiest day

FESTIVE travellers are urged to leave plenty of time for their journeys today – the busiest travel day of the year.

Edinburgh Airport is expecting 23,000 passengers to pass through it, while road and rail networks will be under additional pressure as people travel to be with friends and family over Christmas. The Met Office said today will be dry in Edinburgh, with some light winds and temperatures around 4C or 5C.

Despite the good weather conditions, the AA has urged those taking long journeys to be well prepared and exercise caution on what they expect will be the busiest day on the roads this year.

Scotrail will be operating a normal service in Edinburgh today, but trains are expected to be busier than normal and customers are advised to buy tickets in advance and reserve seats, where possible, to ensure they reach their destinations.
