Slain army chief’s son to head military

The son of a Philippine army general killed with 34 of his men by Muslim guerrillas in a 1977 massacre took the country’s top military post yesterday.

Lt-Gen Emmanuel Bautista called on insurgents to abandon their rebellions and vowed to respect human rights in all military campaigns.
