Shot Kinks singer 'too busy' to give evidence in US court

A MAN accused of being an accomplice to a gunman who shot the former Kinks frontman Ray Davies in the leg after robbing his companion was freed after the singer said he was too busy to testify against him.

Jerome Barra was released on Wednesday after prosecutors dismissed charges.

New Orleans district attorney Eddie Jordan said Davies had sent word to prosecutors that he was on tour and unavailable until December.

Barra, 26, was to face trial on charges of armed robbery and principal to aggravated battery in the attack on 4 January, 2004. "We’ll see if we can reinstate the charges once the victim is able to return," Mr Jordan said.
