Reward offered in biscuit theft

Germany’s Bahlsen biscuit company is offering a €1,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of bronze biscuit sculpture taken from the front of its Hanover offices.

How the century-old rectangular gilded bronze sculpture was taken remains unclear, but police said witnesses reported seeing two men with a ladder in the area earlier this month.

A local newspaper received a picture yesterday of someone in an outfit similar to Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster holding a golden biscuit. The sender demanded cookies be delivered to children at a city hospital.

Police are not sure if it is a real claim of responsibility.
