Military court hands out long sentences

A MOROCCAN military court has convicted 24 Western Saharan activists for their role in the deaths of 11 soldiers in 2010, giving nine of the defendants life sentences.

The verdicts came yesterday morning on a range of charges.

In addition to nine life sentences, there were four for 30 years, eight for 25 years, 2 for 20 years, and two others were released for time served.
