Fire destroys Weetabix store

INVESTIGATORS are trying to establish the cause of a fire which destroyed more than 20 tonnes of cereal at a Weetabix factory in South Africa.

Firefighters spent several hours tackling the blaze yesterday morning after it ripped through a warehouse in Cape Town. Officials said the fire raged out of control after setting alight piles of dry cereal.

Wilfred Solomons-Johannes, a spokesman for Cape Town’s disaster management team, said: “The blaze started on the ground floor then rapidly spread to the rest of the building due to the large quantities of combustible materials.”
