Work starts on extension to house scanner

WORK has begun on a new storey at a city private hospital which will house a permanent CT scanner.

Murrayfield Hospital expects the 1.9 million work to be complete and up and running by June this year.

It will be the latest in an ongoing series of upgrades at the Spire Healthcare hospital, with the new full body machine providing detailed images far superior than those provided by normal X-ray machines for consultants to examine.

The organisation said people who had suffered from strokes, heart problems and anyone requiring pre or post-operative assessment would all benefit from the Toshiba Aquilion 64 Multislice machine.

Kim Hogg, the diagnostic imaging manager at Murrayfield, said: "Our patients will have access to faster and more flexible appointment times in pleasant, comfortable surroundings.

"Our on-site scanning facilities couldn't have come at a better time as our newly opened oncology department will get ease of access for patients requiring follow-up scans."
