Women get clearer guide to breast cancer screening
WOMEN invited for breast cancer screening in Scotland are to be given simpler information to help them decide whether to undergo testing.
As Scotland marks 20 years of the full national delivery of breast screening, NHS Scotland has produced a comprehensive leaflet which brings together information previously found in different sources.
Currently, one in four women eligible for screening does not take up her appointment, and officials said they wanted to have all the information available to help women reach a decision.
Karen Butler, of the Scottish Breast Screening Programme, said: "The programme invites women in Scotland aged 50 to 70 every three years for a free mammogram.
"The aim of breast screening is to detect cancers at an early stage, making them easier to treat effectively.
"This leaflet will support women in making an informed decision about going for a mammogram."
