Women are in the dark over breast cancer
A HUGE majority of Lothians women do not know what lifestyle factors impact on the risk of breast cancer, a survey has revealed.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer, which has a research base in Edinburgh's Western General, found that 90 per cent of women were oblivious to what they could do to reduce the chances of getting the disease.
The study – part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month – also found that a third of local females were under the impression there was nothing they could do to influence the likelihood.
Having an active lifestyle, drinking less alcohol and avoiding junk food are all positive things that can make a difference, the charity said.
Scotland director Audrey Birt added: "We really want to get the message out there that there are some positive lifestyle choices all women can make to reduce their breast cancer risk."
