Woman's death at Glasgow flat treated as 'suspicious'

POLICE are carrying out inquiries after a woman's body was found in a flat in the West End of Glasgow.

Strathclyde Police said officers went to the flat in Byres Road at 7.50pm last night.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Enquiries are at a very early stage."

Strathclyde Police later said they were treating the death of the woman as suspicious.

A post-mortem examination will be held to establish the cause of the 54-year-old's death.

Meanwhile, the flat has been sealed off and forensic officers are carrying out an examination of the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Raphael of City Centre Police said: "Until the post-mortem has clarified exactly how she died, officers will be treating this death as a crime.

"A crime scene investigator has been appointed and a thorough investigation is under way.

"The deceased was last seen yesterday morning and discovered by family members early evening. Part of our investigation will be clarifying her movements throughout Wednesday.

"Until she has been positively identified, we are unable to name her but I would ask anyone who thinks they may know something that could assist police, to contact officers at Partick Police Office."
