Woman driver punched by cyclist after rush-hour row

A WOMAN was punched in the face by a cyclist while driving on one of the main roads out of Edinburgh during rush-hour on Thursday.

The 29-year-old was driving a red Volkswagen Golf on the westbound carriageway of the A8, near the bridge at Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters, Gogarburn, when she became involved in a row with a man on a bike at around 5:15pm.

Worried she may have collided with him, she stopped at the side of the road and got out of her car - at which point the man punched her repeatedly in the face before cycling off. She was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment for a perforated eardrum.

Police are now studying CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the cyclist. He is described as being white, between 30 to 35 years old, of athletic build, wearing dark or purple Lycra leggings with neon flashes on the side, a black and grey helmet and riding what has been described as a hybrid-type bike.
