Woman, 96, in flat blaze

A 96-YEAR-OLD woman had to be treated by paramedics following a fire at a city tenement.

The blaze, in Balcarres Street, Morningside, was reported just after 3pm yesterday.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke billowing out of the window of the ground-floor flat. They put out the blaze, which had started in a bedroom.

Crews had put the fire out by 4pm but stayed on the scene to investigate the cause.

Two Lothian Bus services were diverted as the road was closed, with the 23 and 38 going down Morningside Drive.
