Witness appeal after man shot at railway station

A MAN was recovering in hospital last night after being shot near a railway station.

The victim, 28, phoned a friend from near Wishaw train station, North Lanarkshire, at about 6pm on Sunday and told him he had been shot. Emergency services were called and he was taken to hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

Strathclyde Police are treating the incident as attempted murder and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward. Detective Inspector John Lamb from Wishaw CID said he did not believe it was a random attack.

“It is not clear how the man came about his injuries, and I am seeking the assistance of the public to find out what happened,” he said.

“The area would normally be fairly quiet around 6pm on Sunday, but someone may well have seen or heard something which can help officers to find out what happened.”
