William Hague hits out at Syrian deaths

Foreign Secretary William Hague has condemned the killing of dozens of pro-democracy campaigners by Syrian security forces.

At least 49 people were shot dead during the latest demonstrations against the authoritarian regime of president Bashar Assad. More than 250 are thought to have been killed during five weeks of protests.

In a statement, Mr Hague said he was "extremely concerned" by the reports of deaths and casualties from Syria yesterday and urged Mr Assad's government to address demands for political reforms.
