Wife Swap sues in US

THE British producers of the Wife Swap reality TV show are suing an American show, calling it an illegal rip-off.

RDF Media asked a Los Angeles federal court for more than 10 million in damages plus all "gains, profits and advantages" derived from the Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy programme on Fox. The lawsuit targets Fox Broadcasting and the show’s producers.

The writ calls the Fox series "a blatant and wholesale copycat" of Wife Swap.

Fox spokesman Scott Grogan said the network had not seen the lawsuit and could not comment.

Wife Swap was first shown in Britain in 2003, where it was a hit. ABC bought the US rights.
