Why we are asking you to register

Scotsman.com has been online since 1996. Throughout the past eight years we've been committed to delivering high quality content to our users free of charge. And it is still our intention to keep the site's core content free.

Since August 2000 the number of people visiting us each month has grown from under 150,000 to more than 1.9 million (according to audited figures from ABCe). While that's very welcome, we need to know more about you, our readers, so we can keep scotsman.com free. The more we know about our users, the more we can maximise our revenue from advertising.

For this reason, we are expanding our registration-only services. We appreciate that filling in forms is not very enjoyable so we have kept the number of questions to a minimum. The information you supply will help us to make improvements to scotsman.com.

These are the services which are only available to registered users:

• Our paperboy headlines-by-email service, which we will soon be upgrading.

• Our archive of news, features, business and sport stories, which will also be improved.

• Our opinion, crossword and games sections, which will be revamped as part of a general redesign later this year.

• In the next few months we will be expanding our registration-only services.

Later in the year we will also be introducing subscription services that will offer extra in-depth, exclusive content. This will not affect the core content of scotsman.com.
