What a mess!
LAURENCEKIRK is a mess! That is the considered opinion of Mearns community councillor Jim Stuart, who lays the blame firmly at the door of Aberdeenshire Council.
Mr Stuart started his attack by looking at the state of the cemetery where the standard of grass cutting is poor and gullies are full of gravel.
"It just needs someone to take a bit of time to note what needs to be done.
"Laurencekirk is a mess and the council is the worst offender, whether it be the state of walls, buildings or grass areas.
"At the Market Road-Station Road junction a mound of earth was left and it is now covered in weeds. There is not enough attention to detail and the public does not get the service it deserves.
"Everywhere you look there are untidy areas and the council is responsible. We need someone to take responsibility for sorting it out."
Mr Stuart said he has four sheets of paper detailing things in Laurencekirk which require attention.
It was agreed to write to area manager William Munro and Councillor Tom Fleming also promised to have a word with him.
Councillor Jean Dick commented that they had stopped collecting the grass when cutting in the cemetery and that was not good enough.
Councillor Fleming will also take up the question of missing fence panels around both the skatepark and the tennis courts in Laurencekirk.
Member Dennis Bell mentioned that the hedge round the Memorial Park is encroaching over the footpath. He also said it was a similar story with several private hedges in the village.
This will also be raised with Mr Munro, asking the council to take action.
