Wha's like us…Brian O'Reilly
THE battle of the generations is no more keenly felt than in the home and in the apparent inability of teenagers to switch off electronic devices, ranging from computers to lights, and from TVs to games consoles.
As a suffering parent, Brian O'Reilly didn't just despair. In the best traditions of Scottish ingenuity he set to work and came up with the Energy Egg, a gizmo that turns devices off automatically once the last human has left the room. The 36-year-old former teacher came up with the idea after nagging his wife and three children about wasting electricity. They now have Eggs all over the house, linked wirelessly to a control adaptor to which their electrical appliances are connected. O'Reilly said: "For me, it's just great to know we're not wasting energy or throwing money down the drain."
O'Reilly, of Cumbernauld, has now launched his own firm, TreeGreen, and is in talks with hotels and energy firms while supermarket Tesco is already selling Energy Eggs online. His children may not thank him, but bill-paying parents certainly will.
