Website presses Scotland's Eurovision case

A CAMPAIGN has been launched for Scotland to have its own entry in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Scots Eurovision fans got together via Facebook and other networking sites to set up www.scotlandineurovision.eu – a website where people can register their support.

Spokesman David McDonald said: "Eurovision is about the nations of Europe and a wee bit wider getting together and having fun, and it is clear that Scotland could do better representing ourselves than the UK."

SNP Euro-MP Alyn Smith said Eurovision organisers had confirmed it was quite possible for Scotland to enter.

He said: "I would like to see Scotland enter as an independent state, but we're not an independent state yet. Meantime, I've come up with the 'UEFA compromise' whereby Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England could take it in turns to organise the UK's entry."

The competition was this year criticised by BBC presenter Terry Wogan for the political element of the voting, after Russia were declared champions and Britain yet again failed to make any serious impact.
