Weapons on the increase
MORE than 400 people were caught carrying offensive weapons in Lothian and Borders after police stop-and-searches during the last year.
A total of 412 "positive" searches were conducted out of 10,232 searches carried out between last April and March.
The figure represents a 5.4 per cent rise on the previous year, when 391 out of 9656 searches were "positive".
During last year, 244 of the "positive" searches were in Edinburgh while 64 were in East Lothian and Midlothian, and 70 in West Lothian. The force last year launched its No Knives, Better Lives campaign.
